Default Your favorite domain extension - 01-09-2009, 07:48 AM

What is your favorite domain extension?
What I mean favorite is if you want to register a domain, what domain extension you search for the first time?
For me, my favorite is .com domain.
I never thought about having other domain extension like .net, .org, etc.

I am one of those people that greatly prefer .com since it's the most well-known and there are still lots of people out there that don't use search engines. Instead they type in the keyword of what they are looking for and just add a .com to the browser.

The only case that I can think of that I would use a different extension is if I'm limiting my site to viewers from a certain geography such as Canada let's say, I might use .ca.

Or if site is educational then .org is ok too since lots of people associate educational stuff with .org.

But that's just my addiction to .com . Sometime getting a .net may be a better idea since lots of the good keywords may for .com maybe taken. You can probably better keywords for .net. It's a trade off I guess.

i agree with you, .com is the best and can also be understood by any. However, i have a .info as my extension, this i chose because my choice name was not available in .com . It is also okay, if you can look for substitutes for .com

I do not think anybody would prefer .info, or .net as their first preference, everybody starts thinking of .com and end up choosing other extensions due to unavailability of .com

As I am from the UK, naturally I would prefer .co.uk, but with this being at least 3x more expensive than a .com I always go with .com. But if it was a choice between a domain with a dash and .com (E.G ex-ample.com) or the full word and .co.uk (E.G exapmle.co.uk) I would go with the .co.uk, as the keyword is not split up.

It really depends on the site when it comes to regional domains. I would really not stick to regional domains unless your site is targeted on people of that region. Not only because they are generally a bit more expensive but mainly because the Internet is the "World Wide Web". That is one of it's greatest potentials so unless your site is really targeted on people of that region I would definitely stick to Gltd.

Well personally I like the domain with dotcom. Apart from it I guess .net is a better option.

One thing we should keep in mind that the success of a website doesn't rest on its domain but on its quality content.
